Item 60.2

Your crew ashore

Inside the permanent hangar your crew has a room of its own: you see who came aboard, what is being landed ashore and where the work is today. Next to it a kitchen so your chef carries on as usual, a meeting room and the workshops.

Crew accommodation near the yard, transport into the city, arrival formalities, customs clearance on spare parts and translation go through the same project manager, so your crew stays on board instead of standing in queues.

Tuzla is Istanbul’s shipyard district and the country’s main cluster of shipbuilding and repair: the workshops, the equipment suppliers and the specialists sit within the same few kilometres. Parts and your crew’s flights arrive in the same place.

Item 60.3

Your crew is not a snagging team

One project manager is assigned to your yacht before the work starts, on site every day. Every trade on board — the yard’s own engineers and the specialist contractors — works to that schedule, so there is always one person to ask about a job in progress.

Each job is signed off as it finishes, and the snag list is closed before she leaves. Where the maker requires its own engineers — warranty work on main engines and generators, commissioning by the maker — we book the visit and open up the access.

The first call

Speak to the person who would run your project and ask what he has done at your size — the jobs, the yachts, the dates.

Then decide what to send. WhatsApp is fine.
